Restaurant General Manager
The General Manager oversees restaurant operations. He or she is responsible for creating a pleasant and welcoming atmosphere for all guests. To accomplish this, incumbent must hire and train dedicated staff, monitor food production for quality, and ensure guests receive outstanding customer service. On a daily basis, he or she will track inventory, ordering more supplies when necessary, and overseeing all financial transactions for accuracy. An ideal candidate has at least two years of restaurant management experience and a history of successful operations. The GM is responsible for the physical upkeep and all facility maintenance of the building.
General Manager Duties and Responsibilities
- Oversee day-to-day business operations of restaurant
- Prepare the annual budget and plans for the restaurant including sales goals, profit projections, capital requirements and staff requirements
- Maintains the facilities of the restaurant to produce high quality food at the lowest possible cost
- Contracts for and follows up general maintenance and repair to the facility
- Monitors budget, payroll records, and reviews financial transactions to ensure expenditures are authorized and budgeted
- Keeps records required by government agencies regarding sanitation and other regulatory matters
- Ensure patrons have a welcoming and satisfying visit
- Monitor food production and check for taste and quality
- Track inventory and order supplies when necessary
- Hire and train qualified staff
- Evaluate employee performance and provide additional coaching and support as needed
- Manage profit and loss statements and account for costs and revenues
- Allocate budget resources for supplies, equipment, marketing, and personnel
General Manager Requirements and Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent; associate or bachelor’s degree a plus
- 2+ years of experience in the restaurant industry, with substantial time in a managerial role
- Valid food handler’s certificate
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
